This is a test page for slideshows and galleries. Simple Image RotatorThis free slideshow is available from JoomlaWorks. It is a "module" meaning that it can be copied and used multiple times in a site, one instance per page. Images are scooped up from a directory you specify. No ordering of images, text descriptions or transitional effects possible but this module does work with/as the "banner" module (meaning grabs banner images and links). This module is compatible with extensions using both "mootools" and "moofx". RokSlideshow(commented out) This free slideshow is available from RocketWerx. It is a "module" and as such can be copied and used a bunch of times throughout a site, one instance per page. Images are scooped up from a directory you specify and can be ordered in a couple of ways. Text descriptions can be included. And, there a couple of stock image transition types with parameters that can be modified. This module uses "mootools" making it compatible with other "mootols" extensions and incompatible with extensions using "moofx" (like RokLatest, FPSlideshow). And, I have indeed commented out the running of this given its incompatibility with the software set-up I am currently running for this site. The slideshow runs well when it runs and the results look similar to the other slideshows shown here. JoomlArt SlideshowThis slideshow is free with a purchased template license from JoomlArt.com. The software is installed as a "module" and as such can be copied and used a bunch of times throughout a site. Similar to the Monoslideshow described below, it builds a Flash movie of the slideshow you have specified "on the fly", meaning as the page on which it is integrated is loaded. Similiar to the RokSlideshow above, all images in a directory you specify are scooped up and displayed (rather than needing to be scripted in a separate file as with the Monoslideshow), text descriptions may be added and some paramaters for transition types and navigation choices are changeable from within the module. This slideshow is as easy to use as the two described above and easier (and more limited) than the one described next. MonoslideshowThis commercially licensed slideshow is available from monoslideshow.com. The software (installed on your site and not through Joomla!) builds a Flash movie of the slideshow you have specified "on the fly", meaning as the page on which it is integrated is loaded. Everything in the slideshow is changeable and/but must be scripted into a file. Different from the above slideshows, this one allows for the possibility of several "albums" of slides within a single instance of a show. Frontpage Slideshow(commented out) This commercially licensed slideshow is available from JoomlaWorks.gr. The software is both a component and a module. The former is used to define and describe the slides to be used and the latter is used to display these. Only one set of slides is possible per license and it comes with a couple of template choices for the display of the slides. I find using it a little cumbersome and sometimes buggy but, in fairness, it really is intended to be used as a "front page" slideshow with an image, a short description and a link to "whatever" (an external web address, a menu item or an article on your site). And, in fairness to the other slideshows, most of them can be set-up and used in this way "too". It is currently commented out for the same incompatibility reasons as RokSlideshow. Simple Image Gallery Pro testThis test is done with the commercial version of a free piece of software from JoomlaWorks named "Simple Image Gallery". Either version is installed into Joomla! as a "mambot" and is used by writing "gallery" tags into your content to call on directories of images of your choosing. There are a bunch of display parameters available (more in the commercial version) and one of the good things is that you can use "mootools", "moofx" or, as is the case on this site, a "moo-neutral" version of the image overlay mode. Given that it is tag-activated, any number of galleries can be shown on single page. Gallery 1: Gallery 2: SlimboxThe version of Slimbox used here was developed by JoomlaWorks and made available by RocketTheme. It is installed into Joomla! as a "mambot" and is used by placing "slimbox" tags inside your content. There are several versions of Slimbox available and there is at least one using "mootools" and one using "moofx". This means that it is possible to safely integrate "slimbox" tags into your content knowing that either the "mootools" or "moofx" version of the mambot can be activated ("published") depending on the other "moo-dependent" extensions running (or perhaps one day running) on your site. And, in case you're wondering...The slideshows above are indeed "modules". And, normally, modules are displayed in templated module positions but... with iJoomla's "SideBars", it is possible to place modules in sidebars using the "SideBars" component. These sidebars can then be added to content items with "sidebar" tags. These tags are then recognized by the "SideBars" mambot and are displayed when the content is viewed. This is how I got the slideshows into this article :o) |
