"The Joom!Fish project is the official add-on for managing multilingual content within the content management system Joomla!. The project, which was formally known as MambelFish is rewritten and enhanced in order to be compatible with the new versions of the Joomla! project. The Joom!Fish is an add-on component for Joomla! which allows you to maintain and organize your manual translated content in your Joomla! database. The key features of the fish are: possibility for an unlimited amount of languages; possibility to MANUAL translate all dynamic content of your Joomla! installation in ONE database; overview of the changed contents in the Translation list; support for all the core and 3rd party extentions of Joomla!; frontend module for language selection; frontend translation support.

Providing a site in more than one language is basically pretty simple as long as you have only HTML. From the moment you are using a mixture of static text and dynamic content it gets a bit tricky.

The Joom!Fish component is a generic solution that helps you to keep track of your translation process and the dynamic content which shall be translated within your site. The Joom!Fish is the new version of the component formally known as MambelFish. It integrates the whole functionallity of the older versions."

If you wish your site to be available in more than one language, this is the plug-in you need.

Joom!Fish collects all of parts of your site that have any words attached to them (content items, menu items, modules,...) and presents them to you in a wonderfully manageable way for translation. It's up to you whether or not (and how) "yet to be translated" things are displayed but everything is laid out very nicely for you. And, importantly, there are Joom!Fish plug-ins that allow other Joomla! components to be incorporated into it (like VirtueMart in order to translate product and category and terms and conditions).

For multi-lingual sites there is no way around translating your own content. Joom!Fish makes this process as pleasant as it can be.

(Notably, translating your own content is different from integrating translated versions of Joomla! or Joomla! extensions. For the latter, most components already have other languages available for them and Joom!Fish makes using them "automatic".)
