For a secure site... There is a shared SSL available for accounts hosted on The Collective Edge but a shared SSL is a secured connection that is not specific to your website. When you use the shared SSL, you and your patrons will always see a warning window popup saying the connection is not trusted because the domain the certificate is assigned to is not the same name as your website. This may cause your customers not to trust the connection. It certainly always makes me hesitate. If you do not want to see this warning (or have your patrons see this warning) you will need to purchase an SSL that is specific to your site. The Collective Edge uses Comodo 128 bit SSL certificates. Like domain names, SSL certificates are purchased on a yearly basis. Notably, if you use PayPal as your singular e-merchant you don't need this additional security given that the secure part of the interaction happens on PayPal's secure site. |
